BUSINESS OVERVIEW
Tremendous Maid is a family-owned and operated commercial and residential cleaning business headquartered in Dorchester, a neighborhood in southern Boston. Founded in 2011 by sisters Nisaury Tejeda and Victoria Amador, along with their mother Rosa Tejeda, the company now has 35 employees, over 300 residential customers, and contracts with 55 commercial institutions. Tremendous Maid has won several awards, including the 2014 Neighborhood Business of the Year, awarded by The Immigrant Learning Center.

SEEING THE BIG PICTURE
Victoria Amador had previously worked in executive positions for major hotels in Florida. When it came to running her own business, however, Victoria realized a different set of skills was required: “I needed to learn to focus not just on one area but on several: marketing, accounting, staff recruitment and development, and then think about the future.” She often found herself stuck in the day-to-day grind, and could not find time to think about the bigger picture.

In 2014, three years after starting the business, Victoria took the Small Business Administrtion’s Emerging Leaders program, which is powered by Interise’s StreetWise ‘MBA’ curriculum. The program helped her to manage business growth. “The most beneficial part of the program to me was making friends you can call on,” says Victoria. After graduation, she and several classmates continue to meet once each month to discuss challenges they are facing. “Everyone takes a turn presenting a problem and we all comment.”

Tremendous Maid has set ambitious goals to have 125 employees and an employee retention rate of 85 percent by 2018.
