“I always wanted to be the Facebook or the Google of consulting – I wanted to let it be a democracy and people within the organization could just do what they wanted as long as they did good work.”
President Tamara Nall describes her business, The Leading Niche, as “a data analytics and IT consulting firm.” They take data and turn it into digestible information for their clients. Most of their current clients are federal agencies.
Since the beginning, the Leading Niche has held an international portfolio. Today, the Leading Niche employs 65 people who live or work in 17 different states and 12 countries.
THE MIDDLE WAY
In 2007, Tamara left a position in corporate consulting to found The Leading Niche. In the corporate world, Tamara long felt “there was a lot of bureaucracy and hierarchy to getting things done.” In her business, she hoped to pave a middle way: “a high-caliber small business/professional services company but with a big business approach.”
She aimed to start a nimble and more flexible business that could provide clients with recommendations in far less time than larger and more bureaucratic firms could. Although she was motivated to leave her corporate job by a culture that she disliked, she soon learned that culture is something every business owner must work on.
