“Even before my brother and I opened the first location, we knew that we wanted to be the type of business that had a strong positive impact in the community.”BUSINESS OVERVIEW
Started in 1982 by Nick Koulouris, Grecian Gyro is a family-owned restaurant franchise. The Greek restaurant, with its signature family recipes, went from earning $50 on day one to becoming one of the city’s most popular lunch destinations. Thanks to the hard work of Nick’s two children, George and Pano Koulouris, Grecian Gyro today has four locations in the Atlanta area, staffed by 60 employees hired from the local community.
George sees the relationship between his business and his community to be a deeply personal one: “My business’s customers have taken very good care of my family and me for the past three decades, and as such, it’s super important for us to take care of them in return.” In order to take care of his community, George is committed to creating the best jobs and giving back to his customers in anyway he can.
“We are happy to give job opportunities to folks in transition phases in their lives, whether they’re coming out of a recovery program, a halfway home, or a program for the formerly homeless. We offer flexible schedules, so we also have the opportunity to employ single parents, as well as adults who are going back to school to further their education.”
George sees this flexibility as inherently beneficial to his business: “This gives us a rich, diverse group that includes individuals of all ages, races, religions, and sexual orientations, who come together as a strong team with a focused goal of making awesome gyros.”
