“When I took the class they really helped me figure out how can I delegate jobs for my customer service representatives. I learned I have to put more trust in my employees.”BUSINESS OVERVIEW
Angela Westen Insurance Agency is a small, immigrant- and woman-owned business that advises on personal insurance policies, and recently expanded into commercial policies. The agency continues its original focus on service to recent immigrants from Spanish and Portuguese-speaking countries. The business has grown from one to five employees, with plans to move into a larger office.
After working for and seeing firsthand how insurance agencies operate, Angela felt that many agencies did not have enough empathy towards their clients. Being an immigrant herself, Angela saw an opportunity to provide other immigrants who did not speak English with insurance services. She went after the opportunity by going at it alone, launching her own agency.
As a business owner, when Angela started the company, she thought she could do it all. She learned, however, that it was only after she hired and started trusting her employees that she was able to expand her business. Delegating has allowed Angela to focus not only on growth but also on bringing balance to her personal life. When she first started she barely had time away from her business, but now she can save some time for herself and her family.
